KALOUBADYA

Kaloubadya is an emblematic Maloya fusion group, formed in 2012 on Reunion Island. It stands out for its innovative and respectful approach to Reunion musical traditions, while integrating varied influences. The group has already released two albums, “Kabary” in 2012 and “Kalou Bandé” in 2014, and is preparing to unveil its third opus, “Ambony”, in 2024.

The first album, “Kabary”, marks Kaloubadya’s desire to reconnect with the roots and spirituality of Maloya, a song that evokes contact with the ancestors. Bernard Ichaye, formerly known under the pseudonym Benjam, is carrying out an artistic transformation by abandoning his previous influences to claim an authentic Maloya. This album is a cry from the heart, a tribute to slaves of Malagasy and African origins, who used music as a means of resistance and affirmation of their identity. Through songs full of emotion, the group aims to transmit the cultural heritage of ancestors, celebrating both the joys and fears of contemporary Reunion Islanders.

Three years later, Kaloubadya released his second album, “Kalou Bandé”, which confirms the undeniable talent of Bernard Ichaye. His voice, both hoarse and powerful, has matured, offering a rich and emotive listening experience. This album is a true musical journey, incorporating influences from Africa, India and Madagascar. Flagship titles such as “Zoli Bébé” and “Gran Père” were a great success, testifying to the group’s ability to reach a wide audience while remaining faithful to its roots.

The 10 years: Ambony
In 2024, Kaloubadya released his new album, “Ambony”, which means “Up”. This project promises to further explore themes of spirituality and connection with ancestors, while continuing the band’s musical evolution. With lyrics that evoke images of grandeur and depth, this album should further enrich the band’s repertoire.
