YOUSSOUPHA
Youssoupha Mabiki, born 29 August 1979 in Kinshasa, is a Franco-Congolese rapper. Son of the famous Congolese musician Tabu Ley Rochereau, he grew up between the Democratic Republic of Congo and France, where he joined his aunt in 1989. His brilliant school career was disrupted by personal difficulties, leading him to turn to music as a way of expressing his disillusionment with society. He released his first album, ‘À chaque frère’, in 2007, and stands out for his committed rap, far removed from street clichés, and for his literary and thoughtful approach. His album ‘Noir Désir’ (2012) was a huge success, as was ‘NGRTD’ (2015), certified gold disc. Youssoupha is also known for his many collaborations with artists such as Ayo, Oxmo Puccino and Kery James, and is a key player on the militant hip-hop scene.
